Matchup Summary (Win Condition and Game Plan)
Luigi wants to get through R.O.B.’s Gyro, Robo Beam, and Down Tilt wall with shield walking and Fireball, then stop the flow the moment Forward Air, Jab 1, Jab 2, Forward Tilt, or Dash Attack touches shield with Up B (6f) or OOS Nair (6f).
Because R.O.B. is large, Luigi’s grab starters and Neutral Air routes usually pay out hard once Luigi finally gets in.
The problem is that R.O.B.’s Down Tilt is only -5 and Neutral Air is only -4/-3, so mashing after those blocked hits usually gives R.O.B. the reset back through Gyro pickup or a spaced aerial.
The stable win condition is to punish only the clearly unsafe buttons like Forward Air (-6), Back Air (-8/-9), Up Air (-11/-10), Neutral B, Side B, and Down B, then take the stock early by covering R.O.B.’s slower horizontal recovery with Back Air or Down B.

Win Condition Checklist
- Luigi should not jump straight over Gyro or Robo Beam; use shield walking and Fireball first so R.O.B.’s Forward Air, grab, and Down Tilt spacing gets tighter.
- After Luigi blocks R.O.B.’s Jab 1, Jab 2, Forward Tilt, Dash Attack, Forward Air, or Neutral B, answer with Up B (6f) or OOS Nair (6f) before R.O.B. can reset neutral.
- Once Luigi lands grab or Neutral Air, keep the advantage going on R.O.B.’s large body and convert the opening into landing traps or ledge pressure instead of resetting too early.
- Against R.O.B.’s recovery, avoid diving too low under the stage and instead cover Robo Burner drift or Back Air recovery with Back Air, Neutral Air, or Down B.
Actions to Avoid
- Jumping straight at Gyro or Robo Beam and letting R.O.B. anti-air the approach with Forward Air or Up Air.
- Swinging after blocked Down Tilt (-5) or Neutral Air (-4/-3) and giving R.O.B. the easy reset into another Down Tilt, grab, or Up Smash.
- Chasing R.O.B. too deep offstage and getting reversed by Back Air or a falling Gyro.
- Ignoring Gyro on the ledge and overextending into the reclaim, which hands R.O.B. a free Down Tilt, Side B, or landing trap sequence.
