Pyra vs Ganondorf

Ganondorf Matchup (Pyra)

Pyra vs Ganondorf

Pyra vs Ganondorf is won by abusing superior sword range and ledgetraps, then taking only the clearly punishable heavy swings instead of feeding Ganondorf scramble openings.

Matchup Summary (Win Condition and Game Plan)

This matchup gets volatile only if Pyra rushes into close-range scraps and gives Ganondorf chances to trade with nair, bair, fair, down tilt, or side B.
The win condition is to refuse that brawl, hold the line with spaced fair, bair, down tilt, and side B, and keep forcing Ganondorf back into bad landings and ledge situations.
The frame table also shows that f-tilt, up tilt, f-smash, up smash, neutral B (1), and Wizard’s Foot are all clearly punishable on shield, while jab and most aerials are still fairly safe, so Pyra gets more by whiff punishing and cornering than by swinging out of shield too often.
For kills, it is more consistent to close stocks at the ledge with fair, bair, up smash, and up B while covering Ganondorf’s up B and air-dodge return path than to force one huge center-stage read.

Win Condition Checklist

  • Use spaced fair, bair, down tilt, and side B to stop Ganondorf’s forward movement before he can start close-range guesses.
  • Punish f-tilt, up tilt, f-smash, up smash, neutral B (1), and Wizard’s Foot on shield with the listed grab, up B, fair, nair, and up smash answers.
  • Do not overforce shield punishes on jab or the aerials; move under the landing and take the next whiff instead.
  • At the ledge, cover jump with fair or bair and keep getup and roll checked with down tilt or grab.
  • Edgeguard by covering the end point of up B and air dodge with sword placement rather than overchasing offstage.

Actions to Avoid

  • Forcing close-range slugfests just because Pyra has the percent lead.
  • Swinging out of shield at jab, nair, or bair that are still too safe to punish cleanly.
  • Chasing too deep offstage and giving Ganondorf side-B or reverse-position openings.
  • Standing still after winning sword range and letting Ganondorf jump back in.
  • Fishing only for raw f-smash kills and opening yourself up to one huge reversal.
