R.O.B. vs Ike

Ike Matchup (R.O.B.)

R.O.B. vs Ike

R.O.B. vs Ike is won by refusing direct scrambles into Neutral Air, then cashing out on landings, ledge traps, and Ike's linear recovery.

Matchup Summary (Win Condition and Game Plan)

R.O.B. should not brawl directly with Ike’s Neutral Air. Use Gyro and Robo Beam to shift Ike’s jump timing first, then turn the match into a landing trap sequence.
Ike’s Down Tilt, Dash Attack, Forward Tilt, and Up Tilt are all punishable on shield by OOS Fair (9f), Grab (10f), OOS Uair (10f), and Up Smash (10f), so grounded approaches should be answered immediately once blocked.
Neutral Air, Back Air, and Up Air stay mostly safe after shield contact, so forcing a panic swing there is worse than reading the landing spot or the drift back to ledge.
R.O.B. closes stocks best by keeping Gyro available for Ike’s linear Side B and Up B recovery paths and converting that resource into edgeguards or extended ledge pressure.

Win Condition Checklist

  • R.O.B. should use Gyro and Robo Beam to make Ike swing early with short-hop Neutral Air, then cover the landing with Down Tilt, Fair, or Grab instead of meeting the sword in front.
  • After R.O.B. blocks Ike’s Down Tilt, Dash Attack, Forward Tilt, or Up Tilt, pick the reachable punish immediately from OOS Fair (9f), Grab (10f), OOS Uair (10f), and Up Smash (10f).
  • When R.O.B. blocks Ike’s Neutral Air, Back Air, or Up Air, do not mash out of shield; track the landing drift and take the second action instead.
  • Once Ike is offstage, R.O.B. should avoid spending Gyro carelessly and keep it ready to cover both delayed Side B timing and the top of Up B.

Actions to Avoid

  • Letting R.O.B. challenge Ike’s Neutral Air with a preemptive aerial and taking the sword’s lingering hit plus the follow-up route.
  • Blocking Ike’s Down Tilt, Dash Attack, Forward Tilt, or Up Tilt and still giving the turn back without using the available punish window.
  • Throwing Gyro away in mid-range without purpose and losing the best tool for Ike’s recovery and ledge defense.
  • Camping only at ledge height against Ike’s recovery and allowing delayed Side B or an unchecked Up B landing to reset neutral.
