Pichu is a fast rushdown fighter that closes space with low-profile movement and fast aerial pressure. Its self-damage and extreme lightness make every clean hit and every trade costly, so Rosalina and Luma can regain control if Luma stays in front and the fight remains at mid-range. Shield punishes are limited against Pichu’s safest buttons, so do not force reversals after neutral air or down tilt; instead, wait for unsafe landings and ledge positions. If Luma is removed, Rosalina’s close-range defense drops sharply, so the matchup swings back the moment Pichu stays glued to her.

Win Condition Checklist

  • Keep Luma in front so Pichu cannot start every approach at point blank.
  • Do not force shield punishes on neutral air, down tilt, or other low-commitment landings; reset position first.
  • Take the bigger punish windows with up smash, up air, or grab, then convert into ledge pressure.
  • Track both Quick Attack directions offstage and close the recovery lane before chasing damage.
  • Once self-damage and light weight start to matter, look for the stock instead of extending the game.

Actions to Avoid

  • Taking close-range scrambles with no Luma present.
  • Swinging after safe Pichu buttons and losing tempo.
  • Overcommitting offstage and giving Pichu a reverse punish.
  • Treating a Luma-present position as if it were a solo Rosalina defense situation.
