Matchup Summary (Win Condition and Game Plan)
Ivysaur can stop Sora’s slow ground approach with Razor Leaf plus the tip of Fair and Bair, and Sora’s floaty air time lines up badly with Ivysaur’s Uair and Vine Whip, so hovering in front at midrange often gets Sora carried straight into kill percent.
However, Ivysaur is much weaker once you get in close, does not escape landings well, and has a recovery that becomes rigid when it has to aim straight for the ledge, so Sora’s win condition is to force movement with Firaga first, then hit from diagonal air space with Nair, Fair, and Uair until Ivysaur is pushed to the corner.
Shield punishes are not for every aerial here: Fair, Bair, and Uair are often too safe, but blocked Down Tilt, Dash Attack, smash attacks, close Razor Leaf, Vine Whip, and Dair can be checked with Up B or Nair OOS, so defense should stay focused on those slower commitments.
Do not rush the kill through an uppercut war; covering the Vine Whip angle offstage with Bair, freezing ledge timing with Blizzaga, and meeting landings with Uair is the more repeatable way to close stocks.

Win Condition Checklist
- Do not stay directly in front of Razor Leaf; shift the lane with short walks, retreat jumps, and aerial magic, then touch first with Fair or Nair.
- Once Ivysaur is launched, do not cash out early. Keep following the landing with Uair and Fair so Ivysaur’s weak downward coverage gets carried all the way to ledge.
- After shielding Down Tilt, Dash Attack, smash attacks, close Side B, Vine Whip, or Dair, answer with Up B or Nair OOS so Ivysaur cannot keep forcing slow grounded swings.
- At the ledge, watch the tether angle and place Bair or Blizzaga slightly away from the corner to close the vertical line right before tether snap.
- When you get launched high, do not fall straight back down. Drift outward and change height so Ivysaur never gets to sit directly under you with Uair.
Actions to Avoid
- Do not block Razor Leaf from the front every time and then jump in at the same height, because that feeds directly into Fair and Uair intercepts.
- Do not keep air dodging or landing with Dair above Ivysaur, or you will stay in the vertical kill lane for Uair and Vine Whip.
- Do not force automatic OOS on safe Fair, Bair, or Uair, because the whiffed punish gives Ivysaur easy Down Tilt or grab starters.
- Do not dive straight under the ledge to edgeguard in a hurry, or Ivysaur can reverse the position with Dair or the tip of Vine Whip.
