Matchup Summary (Win Condition and Game Plan)
Villager wants to stop Fox’s Jab 1, Jab 2, Rapid Jab Finisher, Forward Tilt, Up Tilt, Down Tilt, Dash Attack, smashes, Forward Air, Up Air, and Down Air with OOS Nair (6f) and OOS Uair (9f) so Fox’s burst never goes unchallenged on shield.
In Villager vs Fox, it is more stable to avoid the direct close-range mash battle, use Slingshot and Lloid Rocket to slow the grounded dash, and only then make Fox jump into the anti-air path.
The table shows that Fox’s jab string, Dash Attack, Up Tilt, Down Tilt, Side B, Up B, and Down B are all punishable enough to convert a solid shield into ledge carry.
Fox’s shallow Neutral Air and Back Air are still hard to answer right away, and once Fox stays point-blank the damage climbs quickly, so Villager should reset space after those touches and rebuild the projectile lane instead of scrambling back.

Win Condition Checklist
- Villager should refuse the direct close-range mash and first create room with Slingshot and Lloid Rocket so Fox’s grounded burst has to travel through something.
- After blocking Fox’s Jab 1, Jab 2, Rapid Jab Finisher, Dash Attack, Up Tilt, Down Tilt, Side B, Up B, or Down B, answer immediately with the option that reaches from OOS Nair (6f) and OOS Uair (9f).
- For Fox’s landing, place Fair and Uair on the travel route first and keep pushing the position back toward the ledge even after the first touch.
- Take kills from Bowling Ball and Back Air near the ledge so Fox does not get repeated close-range turns.
Actions to Avoid
- Accepting the point-blank scramble and playing directly into Fox’s Neutral Air, Up Tilt, and Up Air speed.
- Blocking Dash Attack or Down B and still giving up the punish window because OOS Nair (6f) or OOS Uair (9f) never came out.
- Chasing too far offstage and losing the positional advantage while Fox still makes it back with Up B or Side B.
- Panicking on landing or ledge and making Fox’s Up Tilt to Up Air sequence easy to route.
