Matchup Summary (Win Condition and Game Plan)
This matchup is decided by whether Byleth removes Luma before Rosalina and Luma establish their two-body wall in front and above. In direct spacing alone Byleth’s range and damage are strong enough to beat Rosalina, but while Luma is alive, Forward Air, Up Air, Neutral B, and Side B create layers that are hard to challenge head-on, and impatient airborne approaches usually turn into long landing traps.
The first priority is to hit Luma with Forward Air, Neutral Air, Down Tilt, or uncharged Neutral B while clipping Rosalina at the same time whenever possible. Once Luma is gone, Rosalina’s close-range defense and kill pressure both drop, so that is the window to walk her down, carry with Forward Tilt and Dash Attack, and force ledge situations before she can resummon.
The frame table shows Jab 1, Jab 2 (1)(2), Jab 3 (1), Rapid Jab Finisher, Forward Tilt, Up Tilt, Down Tilt, Dash Attack, all smashes, Forward Air (1), Neutral B, and Side B are punishable with OOS Neutral Air (9f) or Up B (9f). Grounded finishers, smashes, and Side B often extend into Grab or Up Smash, which matters because surviving the two-body pressure on shield should immediately turn into stage control. By contrast, Neutral Air, Back Air, Up Air, and Down Air usually land too safely to force a direct shield punish, so reading the re-landing and Luma’s position is more important than swinging right away.
The win condition is to keep the loop of deleting Luma, pushing solo Rosalina to the ledge, and catching her again before the next resummon. Going for greedy axe swings or deep offstage chases gives the duo more chances to reset, while controlling the ledge keeps the advantage compact and repeatable.

Win Condition Checklist
- Use Forward Air, Neutral Air, Down Tilt, and uncharged Neutral B to hit Luma first and shorten the amount of time both bodies are active together.
- Punish Jab 1, Jab 2 (1)(2), Jab 3 (1), Rapid Jab Finisher, Forward Tilt, Up Tilt, Down Tilt, Dash Attack, all smashes, Forward Air (1), Neutral B, and Side B with OOS Neutral Air (9f) or Up B (9f).
- After Luma is gone, walk Rosalina down with Forward Tilt and Dash Attack so she cannot freely reset into a safe resummon.
- Do not force direct shield punishes on Neutral Air, Back Air, Up Air, or Down Air; cover the landing and Luma’s return point instead.
- At the ledge, use Forward Air, Back Air, and Up Smash to keep resummon-denial pressure going instead of chasing too deep.
Actions to Avoid
- Throwing out slow axe swings or smashes straight into an active Rosalina and Luma wall.
- Jumping over the duo too early and feeding Rosalina’s Up Air plus Luma follow-up.
- Failing to press stage control after Luma is gone and letting Rosalina resummon for free.
- Swinging after shielding Neutral Air, Back Air, Up Air, or Down Air when the punish does not really reach.
- Chasing too deep offstage and giving up the resummon-denial ledge position you already earned.
