Dark Samus vs Olimar

Olimar Matchup (Dark Samus)

Dark Samus vs Olimar

In Dark Samus vs Olimar, the stable win condition is to avoid overrelying on Charge Shot, disrupt Pikmin management with missiles and grounded pressure, and keep every hit on Olimar flowing into juggle or ledge pressure.

Matchup Summary (Win Condition and Game Plan)

This matchup gets awkward whenever Olimar is allowed to keep throwing Pikmin and poking in rhythm, because Dark Samus’s large hurtbox and slower fall make repeated small touches add up quickly. Overcommitting to Charge Shot alone often makes that problem worse, since Olimar can manage Pikmin and spacing before Dark Samus ever gets the clean opening she actually needs.
Dark Samus should instead use missiles and grounded walks to break Pikmin structure first, then take the real opening on Olimar’s body with fair, uair, or grab once he is forced to stop. Olimar’s close-range defense is much thinner than his midrange control, so once Dark Samus gets through the first layer she can usually keep the juggle or ledge sequence going longer than the neutral exchange suggests.
The frame table also shows that Jab 1, Jab 2, forward tilt, up tilt, down tilt, dash attack, nair, and Side B are all punishable with Up B (4f), OOS Uair (8f), OOS Fair (9f), Grab (10f), OOS Nair (11f), and Up Smash (11f). Purple-Pikmin grounded swings and dash-ins especially need to be taxed every time. By contrast, many smash and aerial states are either unclear or not stable immediate shield punishes, so forcing a fast answer there usually just gives Olimar another reset.
For kills, Dark Samus gets more from keeping Olimar cornered than from forcing central hard reads. Missiles and Charge Shot can threaten jump and high recovery together, while fair, up smash, and the next juggle often cleanly finish Olimar’s light body once he is already above or at the ledge.

Win Condition Checklist

  • Do not play only around Charge Shot. Use missiles and grounded movement to break Pikmin formation before going after Olimar himself.
  • Punish Jab 1, Jab 2, forward tilt, up tilt, down tilt, dash attack, nair, and Side B with Up B, OOS Uair, OOS Fair, Grab, OOS Nair, and Up Smash.
  • When shield data is unclear or the move is not a stable punish, skip the instant swing and take Olimar’s landing drift or escape route instead.
  • Once Olimar is touched, keep the juggle going with uair and up smash so his light weight and vertical launches matter before he can rebuild Pikmin order.
  • At the ledge, show missiles and Charge Shot to cover jump and high recovery, then finish with fair, up smash, or the next anti-air instead of overchasing.

Actions to Avoid

  • Playing the entire neutral around Charge Shot and giving Olimar time to rebuild Pikmin control and spacing.
  • Staring at the Pikmin so long that Olimar’s body never gets pressured when it is actually vulnerable.
  • Swinging immediate shield punishes into unclear aerial or smash states and handing Olimar a free reset.
  • Chasing too deep offstage and exposing Dark Samus’s large body and slow fall when ledge pressure was already winning.
