Matchup Summary (Win Condition and Game Plan)

Meta Knight can keep the pressure going with tilts and aerial mobility, but once Dr. Mario stops the tail end of Rapid Jab or a tilt string, the punish is heavy and a single catch can create a big damage swing.
Rather than trying to track him through the air, it fits better to use pills and grounded patience to narrow the landing spot, then pick off low-profile counterattacks with up B and forward air.
For kills, it is more stable to push him toward the ledge and exploit his short recovery distance and limited horizontal movement than to gamble on a direct vertical read.

Win Condition Checklist

  • Even if he shows multiple jumps, do not jump immediately; place up B or up smash at the landing end point to shorten the chase.
  • Against low aerial counterattacks, do not swing wildly; only punish the end of tilt strings or dash attack on shield with certainty.
  • After you land a hit, carry him to the ledge and delay the next approach instead of letting him reset in center stage.

Actions to Avoid

  • Do not chase his aerial mobility around and rack up whiffs, because you will lose the landing-trap race.
  • Do not overchase offstage and lose your own recovery first.
  • Do not try to mash out immediately after being hit by a string, or you will eat the full multi-hit finisher.
