Matchup Summary (Win Condition and Game Plan)
Villager is excellent at blocking horizontal movement with slingshot, Lloyd Rocket, and tree setups, but King K. Rool gets far more reward once he actually reaches close range. Trying to stay in a flat projectile war is risky because Pocket can flip that exchange, so the stronger plan is to show crown, bait shield or jump, and use that hesitation to walk forward into nair or grab range. Villager’s close-range defense and out-of-shield punishes are weaker, which means K. Rool can snowball hard once he corners the matchup with down throw, fair, uair, and up smash pressure. Kills come more reliably from returning crown ledgetraps, up smash, fair, and Body Counter on the recovery path than from chasing Balloon Trip too deep offstage.

Win Condition Checklist
- Do not throw crown and cannon on the same lane over and over; use them to bait jump or Pocket first, then take space forward.
- Even when slingshot appears, stay patient with walk and shield so Villager’s weaker close-range defense is what eventually has to hold.
- On shield, collect the punish windows on jab 1, jab 2, rapid jab finisher, forward tilt, up tilt, down tilt, dash attack, down smash, uair, and dair, while not overcommitting into the safer aerial touches.
- At the ledge, combine returning crown with fair and watch for jump getup or Balloon Trip landing so up smash or uair can close the stock.
- At kill percent, do not burn belly armor carelessly; let down throw mixups and corner pressure create the one clean heavy hit.
Actions to Avoid
- Spamming crown and cannon directly in front of Villager. Once Pocket steals the pace, K. Rool’s huge body is the only thing left exposed.
- Swinging hard at Lloyd Rocket the moment it appears. Villager can layer fair or slingshot over that reaction and stop K. Rool before he reaches the range he wants.
- Chasing Balloon Trip too deep offstage. Villager can vary the return well enough that K. Rool often loses stage control and gets trapped on the way back instead.
- Relying on belly armor every time Villager presses an aerial in front of you. Multi-hit pressure and crossups can crack that plan quickly and turn K. Rool into combo food.
