Lucina vs Isabelle

Isabelle Matchup (Lucina)

Lucina vs Isabelle

Lucina vs. Isabelle is most stable when sword tip spacing deletes the placement spots for Lloid and aerial zoning, then you push from center stage to the ledge before she can set up again.

Matchup Summary (Win Condition and Game Plan)

Isabelle’s neutral air and back air are relatively safe, but her jab, tilts, up tilt, down tilt, dash attack, and smash attacks are all clearly punishable after shield, so Lucina’s walking pressure and tipper spacing are enough to win the close-range refusal game.
This matchup is less about sitting on the set-play and more about breaking the Lloid setup with sword range while advancing, then preempting Isabelle’s retreat with forward air and down tilt.
For kills, it is more stable to cover jump get-up with back air and neutral get-up with forward tilt or grab at the ledge than to chase too far offstage.

Win Condition Checklist

  • Do not freeze up because of Fishing Rod; walk forward behind shield and threaten the startup of Lloid setups.
  • After blocking jab, tilts, up tilt, down tilt, dash attack, or up smash, answer with up B or up air and keep pushing toward the ledge.
  • Against relatively safe aerial spacing, do not force a punish; instead, cut off the landing spot and the next retreat route first.

Actions to Avoid

  • Jumping high in response to projectiles and matching the height of her fishing line and back air.
  • Giving up ground because you respect Fishing Rod too much and handing over free setup time.
  • Overchasing offstage, failing to secure the balloon recovery, and losing your ledge advantage.
