Matchup Summary (Win Condition and Game Plan)
This matchup depends on whether Luigi can avoid jumping straight into Mii Swordfighter’s sword tip and loadout-dependent projectiles, and instead identify Tornado Shot, Chakram, Counter or reflector options, plus the recovery special, early enough to close space with shield walking and Fireball. Mii Swordfighter can scatter midrange well, but the close-range rotation and defense are not stable, so once the fight becomes tight, Luigi’s burst reward is higher.
In particular, Jab 1-3, Forward Tilt, Up Tilt, Dash Attack, all smash attacks, Forward Air, Down Air, and Up B (1)-(3) all lose hard to Up B (6f) or OOS Nair (6f), so stopping one grounded sword swing often lets Luigi flow directly into grab or Nair conversions.
On the other hand, Down Tilt, Neutral Air, Back Air, and Up Air are hard to punish in place, and mashing after every block just gives Mii Swordfighter room to reset spacing with drift and sword placement. The win condition is not to linger forever outside sword range, but to force one close-range opening with projectiles and low profiling, then cash out with Grab, Nair, or Down Tilt and choose between ledgetrap or edgeguard once the recovery route is known.

Win Condition Checklist
- Confirm Tornado Shot, Chakram, Counter or reflector, and the recovery special early so Fireball and Side B do not keep running into the same answer.
- After blocking Jab 1-3, Forward Tilt, Up Tilt, Dash Attack, any smash attack, Forward Air, Down Air, or Up B (1)-(3), punish immediately with the option that reaches: Up B (6f), OOS Nair (6f), Uair (8f), or Bair/Up Smash (9f).
- After shielding Down Tilt, Neutral Air, Back Air, or Up Air, do not insist on a spot punish. Layer Fireball, Nair, or Uair onto the drift-back and landing instead so the second touch is the real opening.
- Once Luigi gets close, extend damage from Grab, Nair, and Down Tilt routes and do not let Mii Swordfighter’s weaker close defense and combo escape off the hook.
- At the ledge, choose between deep chase and stage hold only after seeing the recovery special, then close early with Bair, Nair, or Cyclone without giving up the corner.
Actions to Avoid
- Throwing out Fireball or Cyclone carelessly before identifying the loadout and walking yourself into Counter or a reflector.
- Swinging after every blocked Down Tilt, Neutral Air, Back Air, or Up Air and letting drift-back plus sword placement reset the midrange.
- Jumping high into sword-tip range and giving Forward Air, Up Tilt, or Up Air easy anti-airs.
- Chasing offstage before reading the recovery option and getting the position reversed.
- Backing off so much that Mii Swordfighter gets to loop midrange projectiles and sword spacing without ever respecting Luigi’s one opening.
