Matchup Summary (Win Condition and Game Plan)
Lucas is very good at contesting that one-step-outside range with Fair, F-tilt, D-tilt, tether, and occasional PSI pressure, so Marth cannot afford to rush straight through neutral. But Lucas is much less comfortable once Marth forces the fight into tight shield pressure and ledge containment. If Marth keeps the spacing disciplined and makes Lucas swing first, Marth’s sword tip still controls the more important part of the exchange.
The win condition is to advance with walk and shield, hold the edge of Lucas’s midrange, and keep pushing him toward the corner with d-tilt, Fair, and Bair. Marth does not need to win huge offstage brawls here. Lucas has enough recovery mix and edgeguard threat that deep chases become expensive, while Marth’s own horizontal recovery remains the weaker point. The cleaner path is to keep center, trap ledge, and finish with tipper Bair, F-tilt, or F-smash once Lucas is boxed in.

Win Condition Checklist
- Walk forward patiently and keep the sword tip just outside Lucas’s Fair, F-tilt, and D-tilt range
- Punish Side B, dash attack, down smash, and falling Dair whenever shield gives you the opening
- Use d-tilt and Fair to take space first, then look for the real kill with ledge tipper Bair, F-tilt, or F-smash
- Do not let projectile feints force extra full hops; keep winning the grounded spacing battle
- Prefer ledgetraps over deep edgeguards so Lucas has to guess on the way back up, not out in open space
Actions to Avoid
- Forcing straight dash-ins through Lucas’s midrange buttons and eating preemptive hits for free
- Fishing with big grounded kill options in center stage and giving Lucas easy whiff punishes
- Chasing too far offstage into PK Thunder and tether recovery interactions that also expose Marth’s weaker recovery
- Staying at the same height after touching Lucas and letting him reset with Uair or landing drift
