Matchup Summary (Win Condition and Game Plan)
This matchup is a battle over projectile layers, but Mega Man is well equipped to interrupt Duck Hunt’s can, gunman, and clay setup before the wall is fully established. Duck Hunt becomes oppressive once the screen is covered, yet its close-range defense and out-of-shield game are weaker, so Mega Man gets strong reward by stepping in with bair, up tilt, or grab right after stopping can control. In neutral, it is better to attack the jump and landing routes with bair, up smash, and uair than to challenge the front of the wall directly, then seal the retreat path with projectiles again. For stocks, rely on Crash Bomber ledgetraps, bair, forward smash, and up smash, and treat taking control of the projectile war as the step that makes those kill setups reliable.

Win Condition Checklist
- Use pellets and Metal Blade to interrupt can resets and gunman placement so Duck Hunt has to jump or give ground first.
- After breaking a projectile layer, step forward with bair, up tilt, or grab to punish the weaker close-range defense, then reset back into Mega Man’s preferred spacing.
- On shield, punish only the clearly unsafe spots from forward tilt, up tilt, down tilt, dash attack, bair, uair, and dair instead of swinging blindly at the special-move visuals.
- During landing traps, place uair and up smash early, then cover the horizontal drift or post-Duck Jump helpless fall with bair.
- At kill percent, attach Crash Bomber to narrow ledge choices, cover jump with bair, and use up smash or forward smash on neutral getup and spot dodge timings.
Actions to Avoid
- Jumping in from high above while can is still active. That route lets Duck Hunt stack can and clay coverage together and drags Mega Man into the close-range scrambles he wants to avoid.
- Continuing to fire pellets in place after the wall has already been interrupted. Duck Hunt can simply retreat and rebuild, so Mega Man needs to advance the moment the setup breaks.
- Fishing only for forward smash to finish stocks. Duck Hunt’s recovery travels far but remains readable, so ledgetraps and anti-landing pressure close stocks more reliably.
- Throwing out Crash Bomber carelessly and chasing behind it every time. When it overlaps with can or gunman, Mega Man’s own route becomes predictable and his landing options get boxed in.
