Meta Knight vs Falco

Falco Matchup (Meta Knight)

Meta Knight vs Falco

In Meta Knight vs Falco, the important plan is to avoid getting pinned by Laser into Falco's long vertical strings by shifting entry angles with air mobility and taking the landing and ledge first.

Matchup Summary (Win Condition and Game Plan)

If Falco gets to freeze Meta Knight with Laser and then start Up Tilt, Fair, or Up Air strings, Meta Knight’s light weight can snowball into kill percent very quickly. Meta Knight still has the multi-jump mobility and aerial drift to change his entry angle, while Falco’s grounded speed and recovery are both exploitable, so the matchup stabilizes when Meta Knight reaches the space above Falco first instead of contesting Falco’s setup head-on.
The full table shows that Jab 1, Jab 2, Rapid Jab Finisher, Forward Tilt, Up Tilt, Dash Attack, all smashes, Neutral B, Side B, Up B, and Down B are all clear punish points for Up B (7f), OOS Dair (7f), or Up Smash (8f), with OOS Nair, OOS Uair, Grab, and OOS Bair extending the reward. By contrast, Neutral Air, Up Air, and Down Air are mostly not true shield-punish spots, and Back Air is only thinly punishable, so forcing an answer on every aerial usually matters less than pre-covering the next landing or jump.
The win condition is to keep moving through Laser, tag Falco with Nair, Dair, or Up Tilt, and then carry him upward into Up B kills or ledge pressure. Falco’s recovery route is readable enough that Bair, Fair, and the positioning from Down B can threaten both jump and Phantasm without needing a reckless chase every time.
Meta Knight still cannot afford to brawl in center for too long. His hurtbox is wider than it looks and his vertical combo resistance is not strong, so once he earns a touch, he should prioritize the landing trap and the route to ledge instead of letting Falco restart Up Tilt pressure.

Win Condition Checklist

  • Do not stand still under Laser. Use walking and short jumps to alter the entry angle until Nair, Dair, or Up Tilt can reach before Falco cleanly starts his vertical string.
  • When you block Jab 1, Jab 2, Rapid Jab Finisher, Forward Tilt, Up Tilt, Dash Attack, any smash, Neutral B, Side B, Up B, or Down B, punish immediately with Up B (7f), OOS Dair (7f), or Up Smash (8f).
  • After blocking Neutral Air, Up Air, Down Air, or a shallow Back Air, do not force a weak punish. Cover the landing, airdodge, or next jump with Uair and Bair instead.
  • Once Falco is launched, keep the juggle going with Up Tilt, Uair, and Up B so he does not get to reset into another Laser or Up Tilt starter.
  • At ledge, use Bair, Fair, and the space controlled by Down B to threaten both jump from ledge and Phantasm while keeping the chase measured.

Actions to Avoid

  • Freezing in place every time Laser lands and giving Falco a calm route into Up Tilt or Fair starters.
  • Dropping guaranteed punishes on the jab string, grounded buttons, Neutral B, Side B, Up B, or Down B and letting Falco swing into vertical damage without consequence.
  • Trying to shield-punish Neutral Air, Up Air, and Down Air every time and voluntarily starting a close-range scramble where the punish is thin.
  • Chasing too deep offstage and giving Falco room to slip past with Bair timing or a recovery mix while center stage opens back up.
