Mewtwo vs Olimar

Olimar Matchup (Mewtwo)

Mewtwo vs Olimar

Mewtwo vs Olimar is about avoiding the front of Pikmin Toss and long grounded pokes, breaking the formation with mobility and reflection pressure, and then cashing out Olimar's weak landings before Mewtwo's hurtbox gets pinned down.

Matchup Summary (Win Condition and Game Plan)

This matchup gets ugly if Mewtwo keeps taking Pikmin Toss and Olimar’s long grounded pokes from the front, because Mewtwo’s large hurtbox and low weight let white Pikmin pressure, Up Tilt, Up Air, and Up Smash snowball quickly.
The swing point is that Olimar himself does not move especially fast and becomes much weaker once Pikmin order gets scrambled, so Mewtwo should use Shadow Ball and retreating jumps to disrupt the lineup, then use Confusion to discourage Pikmin Toss and other projectile-class pressure before re-entering from the outside with Fair, Grab, and Down Tilt.
The table shows clean punish windows on Jab 1, Forward Tilt, Up Tilt, Down Tilt, Dash Attack, and Neutral Air with Up Smash (9f), Grab (10f), OOS Nair (10f), or OOS Fair (10f), while Jab 2, Purple Side B, the smash attacks, and most later aerial pressure are much harder to answer immediately, so it is more stable to pre-cover the landing and Pikmin-pluck position than to force every shield punish.
For stocks, it is more repeatable to squeeze high landings and ledge exits with Up Air, Bair, Up Throw, and fully charged Shadow Ball than to chase Winged Pikmin too far offstage and risk giving Olimar a scramble back.

Win Condition Checklist

  • Do not fire Shadow Ball only for trades; make Olimar choose jump, shield, or Pikmin Toss first, then punish the second action from outside his preferred poke spacing.
  • After blocking Jab 1, Forward Tilt, Up Tilt, Down Tilt, Dash Attack, or Neutral Air, answer immediately with Up Smash (9f), Grab (10f), OOS Nair (10f), or OOS Fair (10f) and stop the white-Pikmin sequence before it starts.
  • Do not insist on direct out-of-shield punishes against Jab 2, Purple Side B, the smash attacks, or the later aerials; reset spacing with retreating jumps and Teleport, then watch both the landing and the Pikmin pluck.
  • Use Confusion selectively when Olimar shows Pikmin Toss or projectile-class pressure, so he has to vary Side B and smash timing instead of playing one fixed front-facing lane.
  • At kill percent, close stocks with Up Throw, Up Air, Bair, and fully charged Shadow Ball over the ledge and high landing routes instead of overchasing Winged Pikmin offstage.

Actions to Avoid

  • Do not stand in front of Pikmin Toss and long grounded pokes long enough to let white Pikmin and Olimar’s upward kill route build for free.
  • Do not block Jab 1, Forward Tilt, Up Tilt, Down Tilt, Dash Attack, or Neutral Air and still give Olimar another reset by failing to punish on time.
  • Do not try to swing back immediately after every smash attack or Purple Side B and hand the small body underneath your move a free position reset.
  • Do not chase too deep offstage for the kill and let Winged Pikmin drift plus ledge movement turn Mewtwo’s light body into the riskier stock.
