Matchup Summary (Win Condition and Game Plan)
This matchup gets out of control quickly if Mii Swordfighter accepts a close-range scramble against Fox’s speed, but if Swordfighter can force Fox to swing into sword range first, Fox’s light weight and vulnerable recovery become very punishable. Fox is strongest when dash, nair, dash attack, up tilt, and up air let him start a juggle sequence, and if Mii Swordfighter retreats too far, Blaster slows the pace long enough for Fox to widen his approach angles.
Still, Fox’s pressure is not equally safe across all moves. Jab 1-2, up tilt, dash attack, all smash attacks, fair, dair, neutral special, side special, up special, and down special are all punishable enough for up B, grab, up smash, or the available OOS aerials. Up B reaching in 8 frames is especially important, because it lets Mii Swordfighter take the turn back after shielding instead of trying to win every close-range exchange directly.
The win condition is to avoid overcommitting to your own build early and first stretch Fox’s entry distance with sword range. Once Fox is launched, you should not settle for small midstage damage when his light weight makes corner carry and offstage pressure much more rewarding. Fox’s recovery is fast, but the routes themselves are readable, so once side B or up B timing becomes visible, aerials and ledge pressure can convert that into stocks.
By contrast, nair and bair are relatively safe, and swinging in place into them will often fail to finish the punish. Rather than panicking and brawling with Fox up close, the more repeatable plan is to stop him at sword length, punish the overextension, and cash out with edge pressure.

Win Condition Checklist
- Confirm your build early, then use sword range on the horizontal axis to force Fox to start his approaches from farther out.
- After shielding Jab 1-2, up tilt, dash attack, any smash attack, fair, dair, neutral special, side special, up special, or down special, take the punish with up B, grab, up smash, or your available OOS aerials.
- Do not retreat too far just because of Blaster. Hold a slightly more forward position so your sword is already covering Fox’s dash-in point.
- Once Fox is launched, do not stop at small center-stage follow-ups. Push him to the ledge and read side B and up B recovery routes.
- Against safer moves like nair and bair, do not insist on mashing in place. Cover the landing or next forward route with spacing and ledge pressure instead.
Actions to Avoid
- Letting Fox’s speed force you into repeated point-blank scrambles on his terms.
- Retreating too hard from Blaster and giving Fox all the runway he needs for dash-ins and juggle starters.
- Respecting jab or dash attack too much after shield and letting Fox keep his full pressure loop.
- Being satisfied with small midstage damage and never converting Fox’s light weight and weak recovery into ledge pressure.
- Trying to challenge every nair or bair immediately in place and getting whiff-punished for a punish that never reached.
