Mythra vs Byleth

Matchup Summary (Win Condition and Game Plan)

This matchup gets harder the longer Mythra stays in front of Byleth’s weapon tips. Fair, uair, side B, and forward smash all control the space where Mythra wants to dash through, so if she keeps running down the same lane, the range difference matters more than the frame difference and the exchange quickly turns into Byleth’s landing trap.
Mythra still has the better speed and reset frequency by a wide margin. If she does not stay in the same line, she can make the tipper swing miss, re-accelerate immediately, and get in with down tilt, dash attack, nair, or fair before Byleth can rebuild the wall. Once she gets the first touch, the goal is not single-hit damage but chaining into up tilt, up air, and ledge pressure so Byleth never gets comfortable spacing again.
The frame table also shows that jab 1-3, forward tilt, up tilt, down tilt, dash attack, every smash attack, nair, uair, dair, side B, and grounded up B are all punishable by up smash (9f), grab (10f), or up B (10f). By contrast, fair, bair, and neutral B are much less punishable in place, so forcing the immediate answer there often just hands Byleth the reset.
For kills, it is more stable to carry Byleth to ledge through repeated re-entries and then cash out with Lightning Buster, up smash, or back air than to overfish for a center-stage callout. Byleth’s up B can also create awkward reversals offstage, so holding the ledge and covering the return point from onstage is the cleaner way to finish the stock.

Win Condition Checklist

  • Do not stay in the same lane against fair, uair, and side B. Pull back first, make the tipper miss, then re-enter with down tilt, dash attack, nair, or fair.
  • After blocking jab 1-3, forward tilt, up tilt, down tilt, dash attack, every smash attack, nair, uair, dair, side B, or grounded up B, take the listed punish with up smash (9f), grab (10f), or up B (10f).
  • After blocking fair, bair, or neutral B, do not mash in place. Track the landing and pullback jump so the second touch is yours instead.
  • Once you win neutral, do not let Byleth drift back to center for free. Extend into up tilt, up air, and the ledge carry until the weapon spacing is gone.
  • At kill percent, prioritize ledge control over deep chases and finish with Lightning Buster, up smash, or back air on the ledge options and return points.

Actions to Avoid

  • Do not run directly into the range of Byleth’s fair or side B and keep getting reset by the weapon tip.
  • Do not throw out the fastest punish after every tippered fair, bair, or neutral B and hand Byleth another full landing trap when it whiffs.
  • Do not chase too deep offstage and let up B’s tether reversal and your own linear recovery become the same problem.
  • Do not overcommit to raw kill swings in center stage and give up Mythra’s real advantage of repeated re-entry and positional snowball.
