Matchup Summary (Win Condition and Game Plan)
This matchup becomes dangerous if Olimar keeps meeting Ike’s Nair, Bair, Forward Tilt, and Dash Attack head-on, because Olimar’s low weight and linear recovery let one clean sword hit snowball very fast.
The tradeoff is that Ike is neither especially quick nor especially flexible once the sword is already out, so Olimar should use Pikmin Toss to stop the walk and jump first, then cover the recovery of Ike’s swings and landings with Fair, Uair, and Up Smash instead of brawling in place.
The table shows clear punishes on Jab 1-3, Forward Tilt, Up Tilt, Down Tilt, Dash Attack, every smash attack, Neutral B, Side B, and Up B with Grab (10f), OOS Fair (10f), OOS Nair (10f), OOS Uair (11f), or Up Smash (12f), while Nair, Bair, and Uair are much worse immediate punish spots, so it is better to turn those into landing traps than to swing directly back.
For kills, it is more repeatable to narrow Ike’s high recovery and ledge exits with Pikmin Toss, Up Smash, Uair, and blue-Pikmin threat than to overchase offstage and risk losing Olimar’s own recovery.

Win Condition Checklist
- Use Pikmin Toss to stop Ike’s walk and jump early, so Nair and Bair cannot be placed at the exact height Ike wants for free.
- After blocking Jab 1-3, Forward Tilt, Up Tilt, Down Tilt, Dash Attack, any smash attack, Neutral B, Side B, or Up B, answer immediately with Grab (10f), OOS Fair (10f), OOS Nair (10f), OOS Uair (11f), or Up Smash (12f).
- Do not swing directly after blocked Nair, Bair, or Uair; pre-cover the landing, drift-out route, and ledge retreat so the second touch belongs to Olimar.
- When Pikmin order gets scrambled, do not rush straight back into close range; rebuild the lineup once, then restore the mid-range wall before Ike can cash out.
- At kill percent, stay disciplined at ledge and finish with Pikmin Toss pressure, Up Smash, and Uair on the high recovery and jump-from-ledge routes.
Actions to Avoid
- Do not stand in front of Ike’s Nair, Bair, or Forward Tilt and volunteer for the sword’s strongest spacing.
- Do not try to punish every blocked Nair, Bair, or Uair in place and hand Ike another landing trap when the answer whiffs.
- Do not re-enter close range with a broken Pikmin lineup and let Ike’s raw power cash out before the formation is stable again.
- Do not overchase too deep offstage for the stock and let Up B or Bair turn Olimar’s own recovery into the bigger risk.
