Matchup Summary (Win Condition and Game Plan)

This matchup gets uncomfortable if Palutena spends too long respecting Thunder spells and Arcfire from a distance, because Robin gets to hold the exact mid-range where Levin Sword swings become the stock-ending threat.
The win condition is not to sit in a projectile duel. Use Explosive Flame and Auto Reticle to force Robin’s position, then close in with nair, bair, and grab so he keeps retreating instead of freely setting up the next spell.
The table shows that jab, Forward Tilt, Up Tilt, Dash Attack, every smash attack, Dair, and Neutral B are punishable on shield by nair, grab, bair, or fair. Robin’s aerials are much harder to hit immediately, and Side B is plus, so blocked aerial pressure should usually become landing traps and item control instead of instant retaliation.
For kills, do not fish in center. Make Robin swing Levin Sword on the way down, cover the landing with uair or Up Smash, and close the stock at the ledge with bair, grab, and repeat positioning.

Win Condition Checklist

  • Use Explosive Flame and Auto Reticle to force Robin to reveal where he wants to stand before approaching.
  • When you block jab, Forward Tilt, Up Tilt, Dash Attack, the smash attacks, Dair, or Neutral B, punish with the OOS routes from the table.
  • Treat Nair, Fair, Bair, Uair, and the plus Side B as landing-trap situations, not automatic shield punish moments.
  • Keep Robin moving so Levin Sword and spell resources are spent under pressure instead of on his terms.
  • At the ledge, cover jump with bair, catch neutral getup or roll with grab or Up Smash, and reset Robin back outside.

Actions to Avoid

  • Sitting still in front of Thunder charge and Arcfire long enough for Robin to own mid-range.
  • Swinging after every blocked Side B and giving Robin free advantage from the plus frames.
  • Forcing immediate punishes on Levin Sword aerials that are meant to be tracked into the landing instead.
  • Turning the matchup into a center-stage raw kill race before Robin’s strong resources are worn down.
  • Chasing too deep offstage and giving up the safer ledge-trap kill route against Elwind recovery.
