Piranha Plant vs Byleth

Byleth Matchup (Piranha Plant)

Piranha Plant vs Byleth

Piranha Plant vs. Byleth is built around refusing to play straight into tip-range control, then using Poison Breath and Ptooie to break the forward rhythm before converting into ledge pressure.

Matchup Summary (Win Condition and Game Plan)

Byleth forces decisions with long sword and spear ranges, but their endlag is large, so Plant wants to stay out of tip range and concentrate damage into the one punish window.
Poison Breath and Ptooie slow the opponent’s forward tempo, and once they stop moving, Plant’s weight and single-hit damage start to matter more.
For kills, it is more stable to set up the ledge for Wire Recovery and aerial landing traps than to rely on center-stage hit confirms.

Win Condition Checklist

  • Watch the end of sword or spear swings before moving forward, and do not contest tip range head-on.
  • Keep your jumps and approaches minimal so you can stay balanced while carrying them toward the ledge.
  • At the ledge, wait for Wire Recovery and neutral get-up, then continue the coverage through landing as well.

Actions to Avoid

  • Do not get dragged into direct tip-range trades.
  • Do not get clipped by forward air or back air because you forced a reckless approach.
  • Do not overchase offstage and throw away the chance to maintain ledge pressure and recovery punishes.
