Matchup Summary (Win Condition and Game Plan)
This matchup gets dangerous when Rosalina tries to swat Bayonetta out of the air with only the body, because Witch Twist and After Burner Kick starters can turn one bad contest into a long disadvantage string. The stable version of the matchup starts with Luma placed forward to narrow Bayonetta’s approach lanes while Rosalina stays slightly behind and adds fair, uair, and projectiles.
The frame table shows Jab 1-3, Rapid Jab Finisher, each forward tilt hit, down tilt, dash attack, every smash attack, neutral B, and side B are all punishable with Up Smash (8f) or OOS Uair (9f). By contrast, nair, fair, bair, and uair are mostly not punishable in place, and up B ends at even, so trying to shield-punish every aerial usually misses the real opening.
The real opening is where Bayonetta lands or drifts after the pressure. Luma should occupy that space first, then Rosalina steps in to collect the landing or the end of the special. As long as Luma stays alive, Bayonetta’s routes are much less comfortable, so forcing jumps, air dodges, and awkward drift matters more than rushing a kill.
The win condition is to keep Bayonetta from getting a clean reset. Maintain the two-body wall, juggle patiently, and keep the ledge trap active until the next landing becomes fatal.

Win Condition Checklist
- Keep Luma forward and Rosalina behind so Bayonetta has to enter through a thinner route from the start.
- After blocking Jab 1-3, Rapid Jab Finisher, any forward tilt hit, down tilt, dash attack, any smash attack, neutral B, or side B, punish with Up Smash (8f) or OOS Uair (9f).
- Treat nair, fair, bair, and uair as pressure that must be tracked into the landing, not as automatic shield-punish chances. Let Luma occupy the landing space first.
- If Luma is gone, do not force your way back in immediately. Stall safely until the resummon and rebuild the wall before contesting again.
- At the ledge, cover Bayonetta’s lateral drift and high escape together so the next landing stays trapped instead of resetting neutral.
Actions to Avoid
- Trying to anti-air Bayonetta with Rosalina alone after Luma’s position has already collapsed.
- Swinging after every blocked aerial and giving Bayonetta room for Bat Within or another drift reset.
- Panicking forward the moment Luma is lost and taking more damage before the resummon window.
- Abandoning juggle or ledge pressure early just to fish for a rushed kill.
