Simon vs Mr. Game & Watch

Mr. Game & Watch Matchup (Simon)

Simon vs Mr. Game & Watch

Simon vs Mr. Game & Watch is most stable when Simon respects Oil Panic and the 3f Up B, uses whip tip space instead of autopilot projectiles, and forces early ledge kills on the light weight.

Matchup Summary (Win Condition and Game Plan)

Simon wants to block Mr. Game & Watch’s Rapid Jab Finisher, Forward Tilt, Down Tilt, Dash Attack, Back Air, Down Air, and Chef, then answer with Up B (6f), Grab (10f), or OOS Nair (11f) before the 3f Up B scramble can restart.
Mr. Game & Watch still flips defense into offense extremely fast with Up B, Uair juggling, Bair, and Oil Panic, so Simon cannot stay on a simple projectile loop and has to move his own body with the whip wall.
The table shows punish windows on Forward Tilt, Down Tilt, Dash Attack, Back Air, Down Air, and Chef, which means Simon gets more from preemptively shutting the ground lane with Fair, Bair, and Dtilt than from waiting for Game & Watch to already be on top of him.
For stocks, Simon should use Game & Watch’s low weight to win early at the ledge, then keep following the route after Up B with Axe, Up Tilt, and Up Smash instead of assuming the first launch already ends the sequence.

Win Condition Checklist

  • After Simon blocks Mr. Game & Watch’s Rapid Jab Finisher, Forward Tilt, Down Tilt, Dash Attack, Back Air, Down Air, or Chef, punish immediately with Up B (6f), Grab (10f), or OOS Nair (11f).
  • Do not run the same Cross, Holy Water, and Axe rhythm over and over; reduce the free Oil Panic charge time while the whip tip still controls the ground lane.
  • Always keep Mr. Game & Watch’s Up B escape in mind, and hold spacing where Fair, Bair, or Dtilt can still hit without committing Simon’s whole body.
  • At the ledge, keep tracking the landing after Up B and close the high route first with Axe, Up Tilt, and Up Smash.

Actions to Avoid

  • Trying to solve the matchup with projectiles alone and giving Mr. Game & Watch both Oil Panic charge and Up B reversal chances.
  • Accepting point-blank scrambles where Mr. Game & Watch’s Up B, Nair, and Bair can start the whole advantage cycle.
  • Letting Game & Watch drift back to center after the first Up B launch because the follow-up trap was not prepared.
  • Fishing too hard for a raw Forward Smash or Axe and handing the lightweight a whiff punish route back into advantage.
