Matchup Summary (Win Condition and Game Plan)
Ivysaur covers horizontal space and anti-air space at the same time with fair, bair, uair, down tilt, and Razor Leaf, so Wii Fit Trainer gets pushed straight into landing traps and ledge pressure if she tries to force contact with dashes or high jumps. The basic rule of the matchup is to avoid being the first one to enter vine tip range from directly in front.
That said, Ivysaur is not exceptional at scrambling once you get through the first wall. The frame table shows that Jab 1, Jab 2, Rapid Jab Finisher, the tilts, Dash Attack, the smash attacks, nair, dair, Neutral B, Side B, and Up B can all be punished on shield by Up B (6f), OOS Bair (8f), OOS Uair (9f), Grab (10f), or Up Smash (11f). Sun Salutation and Header are most valuable here as tools to stop repeated Razor Leaf or retreating drift so Ivysaur has to swing first.
By contrast, bair is only -5/-4, uair is -6, and even fair often stays at -8 when spaced, so you do not want to force a big punish after every blocked aerial. When those safer aerials touch your shield, it is usually better to reset half a step, track the landing or retreat, and turn the next interaction toward the ledge. Deep Breathing should also be reserved for brief windows after launching Ivysaur away or forcing a high escape, not taken greedily in front of active midrange threats.
Your most stable kill route is not a single hard read in center stage, but a ledge sequence with bair, up smash, direct Header hits, or boosted Sun Salutation covering the way back in. Ivysaur can vary tether recovery height, but chasing too low exposes you to uair and vine reversals, so ledge trapping from stage is the cleaner default.

Win Condition Checklist
- Vary Sun Salutation charge, Header timing, and your ground position so Ivysaur has to show Razor Leaf or a low jump first before you move into close range.
- Punish Jab 1, Jab 2, Rapid Jab Finisher, the tilts, Dash Attack, the smash attacks, nair, dair, Neutral B, Side B, and Up B on shield with Up B (6f), OOS Bair (8f), OOS Uair (9f), Grab (10f), or Up Smash (11f).
- After blocking safer fair, bair, or uair spacing, do not swing automatically in place; track the drift, landing, and backstep instead and keep pushing the exchange toward ledge.
- Use Deep Breathing only after sending Ivysaur far away or forcing a high reset, so the buff time is spent on ledge pressure and kill confirms rather than neutral.
- At kill percent, lean on ledge bair, up smash, direct Header, and boosted Sun Salutation while watching tether recovery height from the stage.
Actions to Avoid
- Running or full hopping straight into the front of Ivysaur’s vine range while Razor Leaf and anti-airs are ready.
- Repeating the same Sun Salutation or Header rhythm from one spot and giving Ivysaur an easy timing for low-jump interception.
- Trying to hard-punish every blocked bair or uair and whiffing in place into a retreating reset.
- Chasing too far below the ledge for a kill and getting reversed by uair or vines instead of taking the cleaner ledge trap.
