Matchup Summary (Win Condition and Game Plan)
Villager wants this matchup to become a reaction test around slingshot, Lloyd Rocket, sapling, and especially Pocket. If Wolf answers all of that by repeatedly firing blaster at the wrong range, Villager gets the exact tempo shift they want.
The better plan is to use blaster only as a stop sign, then walk and shield through pellet space until Villager is forced to give ground with the body. Sapling and Lloyd only matter when they truly block your path; otherwise the low mobility on Villager himself is the real target.
The table shows strong punish windows on Down Smash, Up Tilt, Rapid Jab Finisher, Dash Attack, and Jab 2, and those should be answered with Grab, OOS Nair, OOS Uair, or OOS Fair. On safer aerials like Neutral Air, Forward Air, and Back Air, it is usually better to hold the landing and ledge path rather than forcing an immediate swing.
Balloon recovery goes far, but it still has readable landing points. Wolf usually gets more by trapping the return onstage than by chasing too deep offstage.

Win Condition Checklist
- Respect Pocket range and use blaster as a check, not as the whole game plan.
- After blocking Down Smash, Up Tilt, Rapid Jab Finisher, Dash Attack, and Jab 2, punish immediately with Grab, OOS Nair, OOS Uair, or OOS Fair.
- Do not swing on Neutral Air, Forward Air, or Back Air just because they touched shield; hold the landing or ledge route first.
- Trap balloon recovery from the ledge and cover the landing point before considering a deep chase.
Actions to Avoid
- Firing blaster over and over at Pocket range and handing Villager the pace of the match.
- Spending too much time clearing sapling or Lloyd when Villager himself was the vulnerable part.
- Swinging after every blocked Neutral Air, Forward Air, or Back Air and letting Villager reset spacing.
- Diving too far after balloon recovery and exposing Wolf’s own recovery weakness before the ledge trap is even spent.
