Matchup Summary (Win Condition and Game Plan)
Fox wants to use his run speed, nair, dash attack, and up tilt to force close range before Hero can meaningfully use menu or long charge windows. Hero still matches this matchup well when Fox enters on predictable lines, because Hero has sword reach, a 3f up-B punish, the straight threat of side-B, and enough raw kill power to punish Fox’s light weight early. The core plan is to avoid overcommitting to big spells or menu, then cut off Fox’s burst paths with f-tilt, fair, bair, up-B punishes, and the Zap line while taking early kills once he reaches the threshold. If Hero gets greedy with down-B or long charge actions at close range, Fox can run the whole pace with landing traps and ledge pressure, so Hero has to preserve turns with normals first and spend spells only at the right moments.

Win Condition Checklist
- Use Command Selection only when you actually have time; by default, cut off Fox’s route first with f-tilt, fair, bair, and the Zap line
- After Fox touches your shield, take the guaranteed punishes on jab 1, jab 2, rapid-jab finisher, up tilt, dash attack, every smash attack, fair, dair, neutral B, side B, up B, and down B, centered on up B and up smash
- Do not overrespect Reflector against the Zap line; place it at the tip in front of him or on his landing so it checks the start of his dash-ins
- At kill percent, narrow your choices to fair, bair, up smash, and large kill threats like Kazap instead of forcing longer extensions on a light character
- At the ledge, hold sword range over his getup options and confirm whether he returns with side B or up B before ending the stock with fair or up B
Actions to Avoid
- Do not open down B repeatedly at point-blank range. Fox reaches you before menu matters, so the startup becomes a bigger liability than the reward.
- Do not fully charge Frizz line spells directly in front of him. His blaster and burst pressure strip away the setup time, and if you get interrupted you lose both tempo and MP.
- Do not keep escaping by jumping over Fox. His up-tilt and up-air traps start too easily there, and Hero’s air mobility does not let him drift out cleanly.
- Do not keep giving up punishes on side B or Reflector because you want to stay safe. Fox is light enough that every early punish window matters in this matchup.
