Wolf Matchup (Pit)

Pit vs Wolf

Pit vs Wolf is about disrupting Blaster and drift-back tempo with arrows, then converting only the real punish windows into juggles and ledge pressure.

Matchup Summary (Win Condition and Game Plan)

This matchup gets harder the longer Wolf is allowed to sit behind Blaster and Back Air. Pit has the recovery and air drift to survive one reset, but if he keeps entering from the same height he gets lined up for Nair, Bair, and Up Smash far too often.
The win condition is to avoid forcing neutral too early, use arrows to disturb Blaster rhythm and drift-back timing, and only cash in when Wolf actually commits to Forward Tilt, Up Tilt, Down Tilt, Dash Attack, the smash attacks, Neutral B, Up B, or Down B. As the table shows, those are the moments where Up Smash (6f), OOS Nair (7f), and grab (10f) matter. Forward Air, Back Air, and Down Air are much harder to punish immediately, so trying to shield-punish everything in place usually loses the next interaction.
Pit should not rely only on direct horizontal approaches. Touching shield with low Nair or Fair and then disengaging to catch the next landing is more stable. Wolf also has limited recovery distance and less freedom offstage, so once Pit forces him to the edge, he can often win by stacking ledge traps with Bair, Up Smash, and Uair instead of overchasing.
Pit will often lose the raw damage race in center, but he can still win by lowering the number of clean hits Wolf gets and repeating ledge pressure. The key balance is to avoid freezing because of Blaster while also refusing to run straight into Back Air.

Win Condition Checklist

  • Use arrows to break up Blaster rhythm and drift-back timing so Wolf cannot camp at his preferred midrange for free.
  • After blocking Forward Tilt, Up Tilt, Down Tilt, Dash Attack, the smash attacks, Neutral B, Up B, or Down B, punish immediately with Up Smash (6f), OOS Nair (7f), or grab (10f).
  • After blocking Forward Air, Back Air, or Down Air, do not force an in-place punish. Track the landing or retreat path with Fair, Uair, or dash positioning instead.
  • Once Wolf is airborne, push the advantage toward the ledge and cover jump, neutral getup, and drifted landings with Bair, Up Smash, and Uair.
  • Mix your entry heights. Use low Nair and Fair to touch shield, disengage, and win the second landing trap rather than the first scramble.

Actions to Avoid

  • Respecting Blaster so much that you stop contesting midrange and hand Wolf control of the pace.
  • Trying to OOS punish Forward Air, Back Air, and Down Air every time, whiffing in place, and giving Wolf the next juggle for free.
  • Repeating the same jump height and feeding directly into Bair and Up Smash anti-airs.
  • Overchasing offstage for kills and giving up stronger ledge control for a riskier reversal window.
