Matchup Summary (Win Condition and Game Plan)
Ryu gets strong punishes whenever Olimar’s body is forced into close shield pressure. Jab 1-2, Forward Tilt, Up Tilt, Down Tilt, Dash Attack, Neutral Air, and purple Pikmin Side B all let Ryu answer with Up B (6f), OOS Nair (7f), OOS Uair (9f), Up Smash (9f), or Grab (10f).
The hard part is reaching those spots before the Pikmin lineup chips Ryu down. Olimar’s tosses and disjointed spacing can keep Ryu from advancing cleanly, and white or purple pressure adds up fast if Ryu tries to walk in without making Olimar move first.
Ryu should vary Hadoken speed, show Saving Attack at the right times, and aim to catch the space just after Pikmin Toss or a retreating reset with Down Tilt, Nair, or walk-up Grab. Once Ryu gets in, the reward should be true close-range damage, not a quick reset back to neutral.
Because Olimar’s Up Smash and Up Air create a very direct upward kill route, Ryu should avoid taking unnecessary high-air scraps and instead close stocks through anti-air Up Tilt, Shoryuken, and corner pressure that limits Olimar’s escapes on the ground.

Win Condition Checklist
- After blocking Olimar’s Jab 1-2, Forward Tilt, Up Tilt, Down Tilt, Dash Attack, Neutral Air, or purple Side B, punish with Up B (6f), OOS Nair (7f), OOS Uair (9f), Up Smash (9f), or Grab (10f).
- Do not approach only by walking. Use changing Hadoken timing and Saving Attack threat to break Olimar’s Pikmin Toss rhythm and force movement from the body.
- Once Ryu gets inside, extend from Down Tilt, Nair, and Grab instead of immediately giving Olimar space to rebuild the lineup.
- Finish stocks with grounded corner control, anti-air Up Tilt, and Shoryuken rather than chasing every juggle too high.
Actions to Avoid
- Refusing to use Hadoken enough and letting Olimar chip Ryu on the way in with repeated Pikmin Tosses.
- Ignoring white and purple Pikmin value and losing too much damage before the real close-range game even starts.
- Backing away right after finally getting a close hit and handing Olimar time to reset.
- Overcommitting upward and giving Olimar easy Up Smash or Up Air kill routes.
