Zelda vs Ike

Ike Matchup (Zelda)

Zelda vs Ike

Zelda vs Ike is about refusing direct sword-range contests, bending Ike's approach with Phantom and spacing, then killing him through landing traps and recovery punishes.

Matchup Summary (Win Condition and Game Plan)

Zelda vs Ike is difficult if you challenge his sword head-on, but the matchup changes once Phantom and retreat spacing force Ike to commit to a narrower path. Ike gets huge reward from one Nair, Bair, or Dash Attack, yet his startup and defensive speed are still limited, so Zelda wants to bait those swings and answer with Up B punishes, Up Smash, and lightning kicks. Your kills are more consistent from juggling into Uair or Up Tilt and then edgeguarding Ike’s Up B than from repeatedly gambling on center-stage magic calls. If you start charging Phantom or mashing Nayru’s Love at point-blank range, you lose the space that makes the matchup work, so position before the spell matters more than the spell itself.

Win Condition Checklist

  • Place Phantom with a slight retreat so you can react to Ike’s jump, shield, or roll instead of only sending a wall straight ahead
  • Take guaranteed punishes on Fair, Dair, Side B, and the landing from Up B so Ike cannot swing his sword without consequence
  • After blocking or avoiding Nair and Dash Attack once, keep shrinking Ike’s landing options with Up Tilt, Uair, and a fresh setup instead of resetting neutral immediately
  • Offstage, watch Ike’s Up B route first and cover the angle itself with Bair, Din’s Fire, or ledge-drop Nair

Actions to Avoid

  • Starting Phantom charge right at sword tip range and getting clipped by Nair or Dash Attack
  • Using Nayru’s Love or Up B at the same panic timing every time and giving Ike a big read
  • Forcing a kill swing too early after launching Ike and letting him air dodge back into the close-range fight he wants
