Matchup Summary (Win Condition and Game Plan)

Mii Gunner wants to freeze Marth’s forward movement with layered projectiles and anti-airs, but once Marth reaches sword-tip range, Gunner’s close-range cycling is much less comfortable and the space control can flip quickly. The reliable plan is not to leap through the whole projectile screen. Marth gets more by walking, shielding, and placing tipper fair, down tilt, or uair exactly where Gunner has to pause. Jab strings, forward tilt, up tilt, down tilt, dash attack, and the smash attacks all leave clear shield punishes, so the matchup rewards taking those grounded stops cleanly rather than chasing every projectile startup. Stocks also come more steadily from ledge carry into tipper fair, bair, and Up B checks than from forcing raw center-stage kills through the zoner wall.

Win Condition Checklist

  • Do not panic-jump through the projectile layer; walk and shield until tipper fair or down tilt range is established
  • After shielding jab 1-3, forward tilt, up tilt, down tilt, dash attack, or smash attacks, take the guaranteed Up B or uair punish
  • Once inside, avoid overcommitting at point-blank range and keep sword-tip spacing to catch jump-outs with uair or bair
  • At the ledge, cover recovery height and neutral getup first, then convert with tipper fair, bair, or Up B
  • Focus on winning the moments when Gunner is forced to stop rather than contesting every projectile release

Actions to Avoid

  • Jumping too far forward at the zoning layer and running directly into Up B or up smash reversal
  • Letting blocked close-range normals go unpunished and giving Mii Gunner time to rebuild projectile control
  • Staying too deep inside after getting close and abandoning Marth’s strongest tipper spacing
  • Chasing too far offstage and exposing Marth’s shorter horizontal recovery for no reason
  • Forcing early center-stage smash kills and handing back neutral to the zoning setup
